Last Updated: April 7th, 2026

Freehold Raceway Mall is one of New Jersey’s most thriving shopping destinations — 200+ stores across two indoor levels in Freehold, Monmouth County, anchored by Macy’s, JCPenney, and Primark. The mall is consistently busy and genuinely fun to visit: you get Zara, Apple, ULTA Beauty, lululemon, and a dining lineup that includes The Cheesecake Factory, P.F. Chang’s, and Kura Sushi. There’s also a Kids Empire indoor playground (opening 2026) and the adjacent AMC Loews Freehold Metroplex 14. What’s New at Freehold Raceway Mall (2025–2026)

Freehold is one of the few New Jersey malls that’s actively growing rather than shrinking. Several major openings have happened in the past year, with more on the way:

  • Jack & Jones / JJXX — Opened March 2026. One of the first U.S. locations of the popular Scandinavian fashion brand. A genuinely exciting addition that’s already drawing crowds.
  • Kids Empire — A 15,000 sq ft indoor playground opening near Primark in early 2026. A huge draw for families and one of the most anticipated additions to the Monmouth County area.
  • POP MART — The collectible pop culture retailer is opening at Freehold in 2026, bringing its signature blind boxes and designer toy brands to Central NJ.
  • JD Sports — The global athletic footwear and apparel giant rebranded from Finish Line in winter 2026 with an expanded store footprint.
  • Von Maur — The upscale Midwest department store chain is opening its first New Jersey location at Freehold Raceway Mall in Fall 2027. A major coup for the mall — Von Maur is known for high-quality fashion, free gift wrapping, and interest-free credit.

Stores at Freehold Raceway Mall

Freehold Raceway Mall has 200+ stores across two levels, covering fashion, beauty, tech, dining, and more. Highlights include the Apple Store, ULTA Beauty, Sephora, Zara, lululemon, and anchors Macy’s, JCPenney, and Primark. Restaurants at Freehold Raceway Mall

Freehold’s dining lineup is legitimately good for a suburban mall — three distinct restaurant tiers make it easy to eat well at any point in your visit:

  • The Cheesecake Factory — The full sit-down experience with the iconic 200-item menu. Consistently one of the most popular restaurants in Monmouth County. Waits can be long on weekend evenings — add yourself to the waitlist via the app before you finish shopping.
  • P.F. Chang’s — Full-service Asian-inspired dining with cocktails. A reliable choice for a proper sit-down lunch or dinner. Right next to the mall entrance.
  • Kura Sushi — The Japanese revolving sushi bar concept. One of the most fun dining experiences in the mall — great for families and sushi fans. Fresh, quality sushi at reasonable prices on the conveyor belt.
  • Food Court (2nd Level) — Chick-fil-A, Qdoba Mexican Grill, Subway, Auntie Anne’s, and a range of other quick-service options. Well-maintained with plenty of seating — a good quick refuel between stores.

Freehold Raceway Mall Map & Layout

Freehold Raceway Mall is a two-level enclosed mall with six outer parking lots, making it easy to enter from multiple sides. The basic layout:

  • Level 1 — Main shopping level. Macy’s at the north end, JCPenney at the west, Primark at the south. Zara, Apple, lululemon, ULTA, Sephora, and most fashion brands are on this level.
  • Level 2 — Additional retail, the food court with full seating, and access to the upper parking entrances. The double-decker carousel — one of the mall’s most beloved features — is also here.

The full interactive Freehold Raceway Mall map is at freeholdracewaymall.com — use it to search by store name and find exact locations before you arrive. Guest Services on Level 1 also has printed maps.

Family & Entertainment: Kids Empire & AMC

Freehold has always been a family-friendly mall, and two major entertainment additions make it even more compelling for parents with kids:

  • Kids Empire — A 15,000 sq ft indoor playground opening near the Primark entrance in 2026. Climbing structures, slides, and soft-play areas for kids of all ages. One of the largest indoor play spaces in Monmouth County.
  • AMC Loews Freehold Metroplex 14 — Located at 101 Trotters Way adjacent to the mall. La-Z-Boy style leather recliners, big screens, and the latest films. Book tickets on the AMC app in advance — particularly for weekend evening shows.
  • LEGO Store — An in-mall destination for families with kids. Pick-a-Brick wall, exclusive sets, and Build-a-Minifigure station make it a reliable crowd-pleaser.
  • Double-Decker Carousel — The mall’s iconic feature on Level 2. A classic New Jersey mall experience and a hit with young kids.

No Sales Tax on Clothing in NJ

New Jersey charges zero sales tax on clothing and shoes — which means every purchase at Freehold Raceway Mall is already discounted before any sale price kicks in. Buying a $150 pair of lululemon leggings? You pay $150, not $160+. Stocking up on Primark basics for the kids? All at the listed price. This is one of the real advantages of shopping in NJ vs. crossing into New York or Pennsylvania. Read more about NJ’s tax-free shopping rules.

Tips Before You Visit Freehold Raceway Mall

  • Arrive early on weekends. Freehold gets genuinely busy on Saturday afternoons — especially in the Cheesecake Factory and food court areas. We’ve found arriving before 11AM gives you calmer aisles and first pick of parking near your preferred entrance.
  • Add yourself to the Cheesecake Factory waitlist before you shop. Use the app to get on the waitlist when you arrive — by the time you’ve done a few stores, your table will likely be ready. Walk-in waits on weekend evenings can hit 90+ minutes.
  • No sales tax on clothing or shoes. New Jersey’s zero clothing tax means every rack price is the final price. It’s one of the key reasons shoppers drive from Pennsylvania and New York to shop here.
  • Know your level. Level 1 covers most fashion stores. Level 2 has the food court and carousel. Plan your route before you enter — with 200+ stores across two levels, a bit of prep saves real time.
  • Book AMC tickets in advance. The Metroplex 14 next door fills up fast on weekend evenings — book online before you leave home, especially if you’re planning dinner and a movie.
  • Download the Premium Outlets app (for outlet deals). Freehold itself isn’t an outlet, but if you’re combining with Jersey Shore Premium Outlets or another Simon center, the VIP Shopper coupon book is worth the download.

Hotels Near Freehold Raceway Mall

Freehold doesn’t have hotels immediately adjacent to the mall, but several well-rated options are within 10–15 minutes in the Monmouth County area.

  • Sheraton Eatontown Hotel — Also in the Tinton Falls / Eatontown area, near the Shore outlets. Full-service with restaurant and bar — a comfortable overnight after a long shopping day.

Our Take on Freehold Raceway Mall

★★★★★ Freehold is one of our absolute favorites. It’s one of the few malls in New Jersey that still feels genuinely thriving — busy, well-maintained, and with a real energy to it. The store mix is excellent: Zara and lululemon alongside Primark and JCPenney means there’s something for every budget. The dining lineup with Cheesecake Factory, P.F. Chang’s, and now Kura Sushi is better than most malls twice its size. The iconic double-decker carousel is a classic. And with Kids Empire, a LEGO Store, and the AMC Metroplex next door, it’s one of the most complete family days out in Central Jersey. The Von Maur opening in 2027 will only make it better.
