New Jersey has one of the most complete luxury shopping ecosystems in the United States — and once you understand how it’s structured, you can shop any designer brand exactly the way you want to. Some brands are boutique-only, with no outlet option anywhere. Others have both a full-price Short Hills presence and a factory outlet version at Woodbury Commons or Jersey Gardens. And some premium labels have gone all-in on NJ outlets, with multiple locations across the state. This guide breaks it down brand by brand, so you always know where to go — and what to expect when you get there.
Before diving in: everything in New Jersey is zero sales tax on clothing and footwear, statewide, no exceptions. That applies equally at a $5,000 Hermès scarf and a $40 Coach wallet. It’s one of the reasons NJ’s luxury scene punches so far above its weight for a state its size. For the full breakdown of what’s tax-free, see our NJ tax-free shopping guide.
How NJ Luxury Shopping Is Structured
There are three tiers worth knowing when it comes to designer brands in New Jersey. First, The Mall at Short Hills is NJ’s full-price luxury hub — current season, full boutique experience, the same brands you’d find on Fifth Avenue or Rodeo Drive. Second, Woodbury Common Premium Outlets (just over the border in Central Valley, NY, about 60 miles from Short Hills) carries most of those same designer brands at 30–65% off — in outlet format, meaning prior-season merchandise and occasionally outlet-exclusive product lines. Third, Jersey Gardens, Jackson Premium Outlets, and Jersey Shore Premium Outlets focus on premium accessible luxury — Coach, Michael Kors, Kate Spade, Ralph Lauren — at 40–60% off.
One critical distinction: some brands — Hermès, Chanel, Louis Vuitton — operate a strict no-outlet policy globally. You will never find a genuine Chanel bag at an outlet. The only place to buy those brands new in NJ is Short Hills (or The Avenue at American Dream for LV and a few others). Keep that in mind as you plan.
True Luxury: Boutique-Only Brands in New Jersey
These brands sell exclusively through their own boutiques and select department stores. No outlets, no factory stores, no exceptions. If you see one at an “outlet,” it is not authentic.
Hermès in New Jersey
The Hermès boutique at Short Hills Mall is the only Hermès location in New Jersey. It carries the full range — silk scarves, leather goods, ready-to-wear, watches, and home. Hermès has never operated an outlet store anywhere in the world, and it never will. If you’re looking for Hermès in the New York metro area, your options are Short Hills, the Madison Avenue flagship, the Soho boutique, and select Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue locations. We’ve found the Short Hills Hermès to be a genuinely pleasant experience — smaller and calmer than the Manhattan flagships, with knowledgeable staff. Zero tax on silk scarves and clothing is a meaningful saving at Hermès price points.
Chanel in New Jersey
Chanel in New Jersey means one location: the Chanel boutique at The Mall at Short Hills. Chanel maintains strict global distribution control — no department store concessions, no outlets. The Short Hills boutique carries ready-to-wear, handbags (including classic flap and Boy bags), shoes, jewelry, and beauty. The Chanel beauty counter is also available within the Saks Fifth Avenue at Short Hills. Like Hermès, zero clothing tax in NJ applies to everything apparel and accessory-related. Pro tip: Chanel’s waitlist policy for classic bags applies here as it does everywhere — building a relationship with a sales associate over time yields better access than walking in cold.
Louis Vuitton in New Jersey
Louis Vuitton has two New Jersey locations: the boutique at Short Hills Mall and a store at The Avenue at American Dream in East Rutherford. LV operates zero outlet stores globally, by policy. The Short Hills boutique is the flagship NJ experience — full leather goods range, ready-to-wear, watches, shoes, and the seasonal runway collections. The Avenue at American Dream carries a curated selection in a more architectural retail environment. Both locations are full-price and current-season only. Importantly, the NJ clothing tax exemption applies to LV ready-to-wear and accessories, making Short Hills notably more attractive than the New York flagships where you’d pay an additional 4.5% city tax.
Dior in New Jersey
Christian Dior’s New Jersey presence is at Short Hills Mall — no outlet options exist for Dior anywhere in the US. The Short Hills boutique carries women’s ready-to-wear, handbags (Lady Dior, Saddle, Book Tote), shoes, and beauty. The Saks Fifth Avenue at Short Hills also carries a Dior beauty selection. For Dior menswear, the Short Hills selection is limited — the Manhattan boutiques carry fuller men’s collections.
Boutique + Outlet: Brands Available Both Ways in NJ
These brands have full-price boutiques in NJ (primarily at Short Hills) and outlet equivalents at Woodbury Commons. The outlet merchandise is typically prior season or outlet-exclusive — the current season collections are boutique-only.
Gucci in New Jersey
Boutique: The Mall at Short Hills. Full current-season collection — handbags, shoes, ready-to-wear, accessories, gifts. Staff consistently cited in reviews as knowledgeable and approachable. The Short Hills Gucci boutique is one of the best-reviewed luxury retail experiences in the state.
Outlet: Gucci outlet at Woodbury Common Premium Outlets. Prior-season product and outlet-exclusive items, typically 30–50% below boutique pricing. We’ve found the handbag selection at Woodbury Gucci to be hit-or-miss — some seasons are excellent, others thin. The shoes and small leather goods tend to have more consistent availability. Arrive early on weekends; the line forms before opening on busy days.
Prada in New Jersey
Boutique: Short Hills Mall. One of the most praised Prada locations in the region for service quality. Full women’s and men’s collections, including the Prada Galleria and Re-Edition bags, shoes, and accessories.
Outlet: Prada outlet at Woodbury Commons. Miu Miu (Prada’s sister brand) also has an outlet at Woodbury. Outlet savings of 30–55% are common. Worth noting: the Prada Linea Rossa (sportswear) line tends to have strong outlet availability. The classic nylon pieces appear regularly too.
Burberry in New Jersey
Boutique: Short Hills Mall. The classic trench coats, the nova check accessories, and the newer Daniel Lee-era collections. Also carried in the Saks Fifth Avenue and Bloomingdale’s at Short Hills.
Outlet: Burberry outlet at Woodbury Commons — one of the most popular stops there. The trench coat selection at the outlet can be excellent. However, we’ve found that specific colors and sizes sell out fast; if you’re looking for something particular, call ahead or plan for a weekday morning visit.
Salvatore Ferragamo in New Jersey
Boutique: Short Hills Mall. Full shoe, handbag, and ready-to-wear selection for both women and men.
Outlet: Ferragamo at Woodbury Commons — one of the best value propositions in the luxury outlet tier. Ferragamo shoes at outlet pricing (often $150–250 vs. $500–700 retail) represent some of the sharpest deals we’ve found at Woodbury. The men’s loafer and shoe selection is particularly strong.
Tory Burch in New Jersey
Boutique: Short Hills Mall (standalone boutique) plus concessions at Nordstrom and Bloomingdale’s.
Outlets: Tory Burch has outlet stores at Woodbury Commons, Jersey Gardens, Jackson Premium Outlets, and Jersey Shore Premium Outlets. One of the most accessible luxury brands at outlet pricing in NJ — the Miller sandal and the Eleanor bag consistently appear at 40–60% below retail.
Jimmy Choo in New Jersey
Boutique: Short Hills Mall. Full women’s and men’s shoe and accessories collection.
Outlet: Jimmy Choo outlet at Woodbury Commons. Outlet pricing on shoes typically runs 30–50% off, with occasional deeper markdowns on seasonal styles. Worth a stop if shoes are on your list — the quality-to-price ratio at outlet is compelling.
Premium Accessible Luxury: The NJ Outlet Sweet Spot
These brands are the reason NJ outlet malls draw such massive numbers. Coach, Michael Kors, and Kate Spade are stocked at five or six NJ outlet locations each, and the savings relative to full retail are genuine and consistent.
Coach in New Jersey
Coach operates outlet stores at Jersey Gardens, Jackson Premium Outlets, Jersey Shore Premium Outlets, Gloucester Premium Outlets, and Woodbury Commons. Additionally, the full-price Coach boutique is at Short Hills Mall. Outlet pricing is typically 40–60% off retail, and Coach runs additional sale events at their outlet locations throughout the year. The leather bags and the Tabby shoulder bag in particular consistently get excellent value at Coach outlets in NJ.
Michael Kors in New Jersey
Michael Kors outlet stores are at Jersey Gardens, Jackson Premium Outlets, Jersey Shore Premium Outlets, Gloucester Premium Outlets, and Woodbury Commons. Kors is one of the most shopped brands at NJ outlets. Watches, handbags, and footwear at 40–70% off regular retail pricing. The full-price Michael Kors collection (Kors Michael Kors) is available at Nordstrom and Saks at Short Hills for current-season runway pieces.
Kate Spade in New Jersey
Kate Spade outlets are at Jersey Gardens, Jackson Premium Outlets, Jersey Shore Premium Outlets, Gloucester Premium Outlets, and Woodbury Commons. One of the most-visited stores at every NJ outlet mall it occupies. The crossbody and tote selections consistently offer the best value — we’ve seen popular styles at 50–65% below full retail.
Ralph Lauren in New Jersey
Ralph Lauren’s NJ presence spans both ends of the spectrum. The Polo Ralph Lauren flagship boutique is at Short Hills Mall, carrying the full Purple Label and Polo collections. Polo Ralph Lauren Factory stores are at Jersey Gardens, Woodbury Commons, Jackson Premium Outlets, and Jersey Shore Premium Outlets. The outlet Polo selection is strong on basics — Oxford shirts, chinos, knitwear — at around 40–60% off retail. Worth noting that the Purple Label and RRL lines don’t appear at outlets.
Tommy Hilfiger in New Jersey
The Tommy Hilfiger outlet at Jersey Gardens is the largest Tommy outlet store in the country — 20,000+ square feet, enormous selection across men’s, women’s, and kids. Also at Woodbury Commons and Jackson Premium Outlets. If Tommy is on your list, Jersey Gardens is the definitive destination — more inventory, more sizes, and typically the best pricing.
Calvin Klein in New Jersey
Calvin Klein outlets at Jersey Gardens, Woodbury Commons, and Jackson Premium Outlets. The Jersey Gardens CK outlet is one of the most consistently praised on the East Coast for selection and pricing. Denim, outerwear, and the Jeans CK line are particular strengths. Calvin Klein is no longer showing runway collections under a designer name, so outlet stores represent the primary access point for the brand’s core product lines.
Department Store Luxury: What Nordstrom, Saks & Bloomingdale’s Carry
Not every luxury brand in NJ has a standalone boutique, but many are accessible through the department stores at Short Hills, Garden State Plaza, and American Dream. The Nordstrom at Short Hills carries Valentino, Saint Laurent, Givenchy, Balenciaga, Bottega Veneta, Alexander McQueen, and Stella McCartney — brands without standalone NJ boutiques but available through the department store. Saks Fifth Avenue at Short Hills adds coverage across designer shoes and fine jewelry. Bloomingdale’s at Short Hills and American Dream round out the mid-to-upper luxury range with stronger sale event calendars than the boutiques.
Additionally, The Avenue at American Dream is a newer luxury retail corridor — home to Saks Fifth Avenue, Saint Laurent, Dolce & Gabbana, and Louis Vuitton. See our full American Dream Mall guide for the current store list and visit tips.
