South Jersey packs three very different shopping destinations into one tight 12-mile triangle: Cherry Hill Mall (the region’s upscale flagship), Deptford Mall (the practical two-level everyday mall), and Gloucester Premium Outlets (90 designer factory stores at 25–65% off). Add New Jersey’s 0% sales tax on clothing and you have one of the best-value shopping days on the East Coast. Here are three ready-made routes to plan it right.
Route details, store counts, and tax rates checked June 2026.
Why Route Your South Jersey Shopping Day
Unlike North Jersey, where Bergen County’s Sunday blue laws complicate planning, South Jersey is open seven days a week — no restrictions, no workarounds. The three stops sit close together: Deptford Mall and Gloucester Premium Outlets are only about 7 miles apart off Route 42, and Cherry Hill Mall is roughly 12 miles north on Route 38. You can comfortably hit two stops in a day, or all three if you start early.
The bigger reason to make the trip is tax. New Jersey charges no sales tax on clothing and footwear, while Pennsylvania charges 6% on most goods and Philadelphia adds 2% on top. On a $500 wardrobe refresh, crossing the bridge saves you real money before a single discount is applied. Our NJ Tax-Free Shopping Guide breaks down exactly how the rules work.
Itinerary 1: The Outlet Bargain Day (Gloucester + Deptford)
Best for: deal hunters who want maximum discounts per mile. Total driving: about 7 miles between stops.
Morning — Gloucester Premium Outlets (10am–1pm). Start at the open-air village in Blackwood when the racks are freshest and parking is easy. With around 90 designer factory stores at 25–65% off, this is where the deepest discounts of the day live. The village layout keeps everything on one level, and we’ve found weekday mornings are dramatically quieter than Saturday afternoons. Grab lunch at the Market Hall food court before you leave. Check the Gloucester Premium Outlets stores directory to shortlist your brands in advance.
Afternoon — Deptford Mall (1:30pm–5pm). Drive 7 miles up Route 42 to Deptford’s two-level indoor mall. With 150+ specialty stores anchored by Boscov’s, JCPenney, and Macy’s, this is the place to fill in everything the outlets didn’t cover — department-store basics, Sephora, Coach, and solid mid-market brands. The Deptford Mall stores directory lists the full lineup. If you have energy left, the adjacent AMC Deptford 8 makes an easy end to the day.
Itinerary 2: The Full South Jersey Run (All Three Stops)
Best for: serious shoppers and visitors making a full day of it. Total driving: about 20 miles. Start by 10am.
Stop 1 — Cherry Hill Mall (10am–12:30pm). Begin at South Jersey’s flagship: roughly 130 stores across 1.3 million square feet, anchored by Nordstrom, Macy’s, and JCPenney, with Apple, Hugo Boss, and Michael Kors in the lineup. This is your stop for full-price and premium brands — the things outlets rarely carry. Browse the Cherry Hill Mall stores directory before you go, and park near Old Navy, where we’ve found the lots stay open even on busy days.
Stop 2 — Deptford Mall (1pm–3pm). Head about 12 miles south via Route 41 or I-295 to Deptford. Use this middle stop for lunch and the mid-market sweep — 150+ stores on two levels means you cover a lot of ground quickly.
Stop 3 — Gloucester Premium Outlets (3:30pm–close). Finish 7 miles away at the outlets, where evening hours are typically the calmest. End-of-day is a smart time for outlet shopping: you already know what you didn’t find at full price, so you can hunt for the discounted version with a clear list.
Itinerary 3: The Philadelphia Tax-Free Day Trip
Best for: Philadelphia and Delaware Valley shoppers who want NJ’s 0% clothing tax without a long drive.
Morning — cross the bridge to Cherry Hill (8 miles). From Center City, take I-676 over the Ben Franklin Bridge or the Walt Whitman Bridge to Route 38 — Cherry Hill Mall is about 8 miles out, often under 20 minutes outside rush hour. Every clothing and footwear purchase is instantly 8% cheaper than at home (6% PA tax plus 2% Philadelphia tax avoided), before any sale price.
Afternoon — pick your second stop. Deal hunters should continue 20 minutes south to Gloucester Premium Outlets for the 25–65% off racks. If you’d rather stay close, Voorhees Town Center — the former Echelon Mall, now a mixed-use center with Boscov’s and a Restaurant Row — is a 15-minute detour east; see our Voorhees Town Center guide. Either way you’re back over the bridge before dinner.

The Three Stops at a Glance
Cherry Hill Mall — South Jersey’s largest and most upscale mall. ~130 stores, anchored by Nordstrom, Macy’s & JCPenney. Best for premium brands, Apple, and dining at The Capital Grille. 2000 NJ-38, Cherry Hill.
Deptford Mall — the practical everyday option. 150+ stores on two levels, anchored by Boscov’s, JCPenney & Macy’s, with the AMC Deptford 8 next door. Best for mid-market brands and families. 1750 Deptford Center Rd, Deptford.
Gloucester Premium Outlets — the discount anchor of the route. ~90 designer factory stores at 25–65% off in an open-air village with Market Hall dining. Best for outlet prices on Nike, Coach, Polo Ralph Lauren and more. 100 Premium Outlets Blvd, Blackwood.
Planning Tips for Your Route
Go on a weekday if you can — we’ve consistently found Tuesday through Thursday mornings the quietest at all three stops. All three are open on Sundays with no blue-law restrictions, which makes South Jersey a reliable weekend alternative to Bergen County. Parking is free everywhere on this route. In November, note that Gloucester Premium Outlets traditionally runs a Thanksgiving midnight sale, which pairs well with Black Friday at Deptford or Cherry Hill the next morning.
