Update 2026: The Secaucus outlet stores are closed. The Harmon Cove Outlet Center, The Secaucus Outlets, and Outlets at the Cove have all permanently shut down. If you knew Secaucus as the go-to outlet destination near NYC, here’s what changed — and which alternatives are now your best options.
What Changed in Secaucus
For decades, Secaucus was synonymous with outlet shopping — close to Manhattan, good brands, no fuss. At its peak, the town had more than 60 outlet stores spread across several complexes. That era is over. The rise of online shopping hollowed out the traditional outlet model in Secaucus, and all three major outlet centers have now permanently closed:
- Harmon Cove Outlet Center (20 Enterprise Ave) — closed March 2026
- The Secaucus Outlets (1 American Way) — closed February 2026
- Outlets at the Cove (45 Meadowlands Pkwy) — permanently closed
- Calvin Klein Outlet (30 Enterprise Ave N) — closed December 2025
According to Secaucus Mayor Michael Gonnelli, approximately one-third of the 60+ outlets that once existed have already gone, with more following. The sites are being redeveloped into residential complexes for commuters seeking affordable housing near New York City. Harmon Meadow Plaza (with Kohl’s, TJ Maxx, and Bob’s Discount Furniture) remains open as a regular retail strip — but those are not outlet stores.
Best Alternatives Nearby
Shoppers who used to rely on Secaucus have strong alternatives within a short drive:
- American Dream — 5 minutes away, 450+ stores, outlet and full-price shopping, plus indoor entertainment
- Jersey Gardens — 15 minutes, 200+ outlet stores (Tommy Hilfiger, Coach, Nike), free shuttle from Newark Airport
- Garden State Plaza — 20 minutes, Paramus, 300+ stores, one of NJ’s largest malls
- Newport Centre — 10 minutes, Jersey City, easily accessible via PATH from Manhattan
For visitors coming from NYC without a car, Newport Centre (PATH train) or Jersey Gardens (shuttle from Newark Airport / bus from Port Authority) are the most practical options. By car, American Dream is the most complete experience in the area.
Getting to the Secaucus / Meadowlands Area
Harmon Meadow Plaza (regular retailers, not outlet stores) is still accessible for anyone in the area. From Route 3 West via the Lincoln Tunnel, take the Meadowlands Parkway exit. Free parking available. NJ Transit trains stop at Secaucus Junction, within walking distance of the plaza.
Our Take on Secaucus Outlets
⭐⭐ We used to make the trek to Secaucus when hunting for specific brands like Gucci or Michael Kors at a real discount. The “mall” was actually spread across different plazas and warehouses — not the most walkable, but worth it if you knew where to go. Unfortunately, as of 2026 all the outlet centers have permanently closed. Your best alternatives nearby are American Dream (5 minutes away) and Jersey Gardens (15 minutes).
