Bridgewater Commons Renovation: What’s New for NJ Shoppers

Bridgewater Commons Mall interior rendering. COURTESEY OF PACIFIC RETAIL CAPITAL PARTNERS

Last Updated: March 31st, 2026

We’ve seen plenty of malls struggle lately, but Bridgewater Commons is proving it’s still the crown jewel of Central New Jersey. Since Pacific Retail Capital Partners took the reins in 2023, the energy at this 1.2 million sq ft landmark has shifted in a big way. On October 20, 2025, the team officially announced a massive interior refresh to modernize the 1988 classic — and construction is already moving fast.

Fortunately, the work is happening with minimal disruption. So you can still grab your favorites while the glow-up continues. We expect everything to wrap up by Q2 2026.

What’s Changing: The 2026 Renovation Highlights

The design focuses on a light, bright aesthetic that ditches the dated 80s vibes for something much more modern. Additionally, the refresh goes beyond cosmetic fixes — it’s rethinking how shoppers move through the space.

  • Reimagined Food Court: Look for the new “The Lounge” and a kid-friendly “The Little Lounge” on the second floor
  • Modern Aesthetics: Fresh paint, updated lighting, and lush interior landscaping throughout the wings
  • Artistic Touches: New art installations and sleek bannisters replacing old-school fixtures
  • Better Flow: The center court and dining areas are being reorganized for better comfort and convenience

New Stores & Dining Options Coming to Bridgewater

The renovation isn’t just about paint and plants — it’s about the heavy hitters moving in. Since 2023, the mall has signed over 87,000 sq ft of new leases. Consequently, the mix of luxury and trendy retail is stronger than ever.

Why This Matters for NJ Shoppers

Bridgewater Mayor Matthew Moench called this investment “extremely exciting news” for the community — and we agree. Furthermore, staying competitive is vital when you’re up against giants like American Dream Mall or Garden State Plaza.

Because this mall sits right at the intersection of I-287 and Route 22, it remains a super convenient hub for Somerset County families, date nights, and day trips. We’re particularly excited to see the finished result in mid-2026. Moreover, with no sales tax on clothing and footwear in NJ, every new store that opens here makes the value proposition even stronger.

Visiting During the Renovation

Construction is ongoing but the mall remains fully open. However, a few tips for your visit:

  • Check the Bridgewater Commons hours page before heading out — some entrances may be adjusted during construction phases
  • Parking is free and plentiful across the surface lots
  • The anchor stores — Macy’s, Nordstrom, and Lord & Taylor — are all operating normally
  • New stores are opening on a rolling basis as construction completes wing by wing
